As scalp and skull are poor conductors of an electrical field, a case is made here for implantable electrodes, perhaps placed at the time of tumour debulking. Such a system may deliver an electrical field directly to the tumour resection cavity and with greater precision.
To minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission, an ambulant screening protocol for COVID-19 in patients before admission to the hospital was implemented, combining the SARS CoV-2 reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) on a nasopharyngeal swab, a chest computed tomography (CT) and assessment of clinical symptoms. The aim of this study was to evaluatethe diagnostic yield and the proportionality of this pre-procedural screeningprotocol.
In this mono-centre, prospective, cross-sectional study, all patients admitted to the hospital between 22nd April 2020 until 14th May 2020 for semi-urgent surgery, haematological or oncological treatment, or electrophysiological investigationunderwent a COVID-19 screening 2 days before their procedure. The initial section of the article reveals the necessity for incorporating diagnostic imaging with antibacterial therapy, while the latter part delivers mechanistic insights on the benefits of AIE fluorophores in theranostic applications. Further, the review illustrates the recent advancements of AIEgens as theranostic nanolights in bacterial detection, identification and eradication. The review is organised according to the different classes of AIE-active bacterial theranostics such as carrier-free nanoprodrugs, nanomachines for synergistic imaging-guided cancer treatment and bacterial kill, AIE polymers, bioconjugates and nanoparticle carriers. This study was performed to compare severe clinical outcome between initially asymptomatic and symptomatic infections and to identify risk factors associated with high patient mortality among initially asymptomatic patients.
In this retrospective, nationwide cohort study, we included 5621 patients who had been discharged from isolation or died from COVID-19 by 30 April 2020. The mortality rate and admission rate to intensive care unit (ICU) were compared between initially asymptomatic and symptomatic patients. We established a prediction model for patient mortality through risk factor analysis among initially asymptomatic patients.
The prevalence of initially asymptomatic patients upon admission was 25.8%. The mortality rates were not different between groups (3.3% vs. 4.5%,
= .17). However, initially symptomatic patients were more likely to receive ICU care compared to initially asymptomatic patients (4.1% vs. 1.0%,
< .0001). The age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index score (CCIS) was the mosomatic patients were more likely to admitted to the intensive care unit. Age and comorbidities were the potent risk factors for mortality.Two new compounds, including one new arylbenzofuran (1) and one new pterocarpanoid (2), along with nine known ones, were isolated from the seeds of Sophora tonkinensis. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated based on a comprehensive spectroscopic data analysis. Compounds 2 and 3 exhibited good anti-tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) activities with the protective inhibition rate of 69.62% and 68.72% respectively, at concentration of 100 μg/ml.Two novel acylated steroidal sapogenins, 3β-acetoxy-1α, 2α, 4β, 5α, 7α-pentahydroxy-spirost-25(27)-en-6-one (1) and (25S)-3α-acetoxy-1α, 2β, 4α, 5α, 7α-pentahydroxyspirostan-6-one (2), together with two known steroidal sapogenins (3 and 4), were isolated from Rohdea chinensis rhizomes.
