Included studies reported the proportion of AYAs (mean age ≤ 29 years) who were PrEP adherent. PrEP adherence was meta-analyzed using random-effects models. Secondary analyses evaluated potential moderating variables. A total of 41 individual samples, from 29 studies, of 8,679 AYA (weighted average age = 23.8 years) were synthesized. The proportion of AYA who met study-defined thresholds for PrEP adherence was .64 (95% confidence interval .57-.71) across studies. Subgroup analyses revealed that adherence was lower in young cisgender women (.46) than young men who have sex with men (.65) and serodiscordant heterosexual couples (.98). Adherence was higher in studies initiated after 2012 (.70) than earlier studies (.47). No differences based on participant age, country, or strategies to promote adherence were found. Across published studies to date, 64% of AYA demonstrate adequate PrEP adherence. Findings can be used to guide PrEP adherence interventions and also provide directions for future research on PrEP among AYA.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a dynamic, behavioral intervention to optimize medication adherence of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with HIV newly initiating highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and explore its efficacy on adherence and disease outcomes.

The two-arm randomized controlled trial piloted a brief, individualized intervention designed for direct integration into standard clinical care. In total, 32 AYAs with a confirmed HIV diagnosis, reportedly horizontally acquired, and recommended to initiate HAART completed a two-week placebo trial before HAART initiation and were subsequently randomized to standard of care or the individualized intervention. Adherence and disease outcomes were measured over the first six months of HAART.

The delignification rate from beech wood meal (particle size less then 45 μm) of up to 11.0% in 48 h was reached in a MnP reaction supplemented with multiple co-oxidants, glucose, glucose oxidase (GOD) and commercial cellulase. An additional 48-h reaction using fresh MnP/co-oxidants increased the delignification rate to 14.2%. Simultaneous enzymatic delignification and saccharification, which occurs without a need for glucose supplementation, successfully improved the glucose yield to 160% of the reaction without MnP. Development of a more accurate imitation of the mechanisms of delignification that occurs in white-rot fungi has the potential to improve the monosaccharide yield resulting from simultaneous delignification and saccharification.We report the clinical and genetic characteristics of hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis in the multi-ethnic Malaysian population. Subjects with genetically confirmed transthyretin amyloidosis seen between 2001 till August 2020 were included. There were 30 patients and 14 asymptomatic carriers, of which 26 (59.1%) were men. The majority (86.7%) were ethnic Chinese while two (6.7%) each were Malay and Sri Lankan Tamil ethnicity respectively. Among patients, mean age of symptom-onset was 55.9 ± 9.8 years with mean duration from symptom-onset to diagnosis of 3.2 ± 2.5 years. Common presenting symptoms were sensory symptoms of upper limbs (43.3%), symmetric sensory symptoms of both lower limbs (16.7%) and autonomic symptoms (16.7%). Nerve conduction studies showed sensorimotor polyneuropathy in 25 (83.3%) patients (22, axonal). Abnormal echocardiograms were seen in 24 (80%) patients, although 15 were asymptomatic. Of six different TTR mutations found, Ala97Ser was the commonest, and found exclusively in 84.6% of Chinese patients. Other mutations among Chinese patients were Val30Met, Ala25Thr and Asp39Val. Our Malay and Tamil patients had Glu54Lys and Gly47Val mutations respectively.
