CONCLUSION In this study, 6·9% of patients with acute non-traumatic, non-metabolic, non-vascular neurological injuries had a probable recent HEV infection. This paper investigates the dosimetric impact of the shielding disk used during intraoperative electron radiation therapy (IOERT). MATERIALS AND METHODS This paper focuses on the study of four shielding disks types that have been used in our clinic Aluminum (Al)/Lead (Pb), PMMA/Copper(Cu)/PMMA, Aluminum (Al)/Copper (Cu) and Aluminum (Al)/Steel with their specific thicknesses. The theoretical study was conducted with the EGSnrc Monte Carlo (**) code. On the other hand, the measurements were carried out with gafchromic films for the four shielding disks for the same setup inside the water phantom. Finally, a comparison of the simulated and measured PDD curves was performed for the four material combinations. RESULTS ** simulation and gafchromic measurements illustrated that dose values under the four shielding disks types were close to 0, whereas the backscattering enhancement of the disks were 103% with Al/Pb shielding disk, 102% with Al/Steel shielding disk, 102% with Al/Cu shielding disk, 95% with PMMA/Cu/PMMA shielding disk. The PDDs values of the gafchromic films in front of the disks were 107%, 105%, 104%, and 94% for the Al/Pb, Al/Steel, Al/Cu, and PMMA/Cu/PMMA disks respectively. CONCLUSIONS The dose values above and under the shielding disks were acceptable for the four studied shielding types. Demonstrated it is possible to use any of them clinically, while the best shielding disk was the Al/Pb since it has minimum thickness and a small backscatter enhancement. Hemocytes in shrimp play important roles in innate immune responses against pathogens. Although three types of hemocytes including hyalinocytes, semi-granulocytes and granulocytes were identified based on their morphological characters in penaeid shrimp, knowledge about the molecular basis of their functions in the immunity is still very limited. In the present study, three subpopulations of hemocytes were firstly separated by Percoll gradient centrifugation, and their transcriptomes were analyzed. The data showed that significantly differential gene expression patterns existed in different types of hemocytes. The genes encoding phagocytic receptors, lectins and actin cytoskeleton involved in phagocytosis were highly expressed in hyalinocytes, while genes involved in the humoral immunity signaling pathways were highly expressed in semi-granulocytes, and genes encoding prophenoloxidase (proPO)-activating enzyme and serine proteases involved in proPO system activation were highly expressed in granulocytes. Further flow cytometry analysis indicated that hyalinocytes were the main hemocytes subpopulation responsible for ingesting foreign fluorescent beads, and this ingestion process mainly depends on the endocytic way of macropinocytosis. These data provide valuable information for understanding the molecular basis of distinct shrimp hemocytes subpopulations of shrimp in cellular and humoral immunity. Widespread horizontal gene transfer (HGT) may appear a significant factor that accelerates biological evolution. Here we look at HGT primarily from the point of view of prokaryote clones, which we take as the descendants of a single cell, all of whom have exactly the same nucleotide sequence. Any novelty that emerges as a random mutation, creating a new clone, could either disappear before its first HGT, or survive for a period and be transferred to another clone. Due to the chain character of HGT, each gene with an adaptive mutation is thus spread among numerous existing clones, creating further new clones in the process. This makes propagation far faster than elimination, and such genes become practically immortal and form a kind of "biosphere gene pool" (BGP). Not all of these genes exist in every clone, and moreover not all of them are expressed. A significant fraction of the BGP includes of genes repressed by regulatory genes. However, these genes express often enough to be subject to natural selection. d shuffle these genes accumulated in BGP via HGT from prokaryotes that live in these multicellular organisms. Perhaps this was the cause of the "Cambrian explosion" and the high (and increasing) rate of evolution in the Phanerozoic eon compared with the Archean and Proterozoic. V.PURPOSE To determine the change in global and regional Humphrey visual field (VF) after glaucoma drainage device (GDD) implantation over 3-year follow-up. DESIGN Retrospective interventional case series METHODS Patients undergoing GDD placement from 2010-2015 with reliable preoperative and yearly postoperative VF measurements were included. Clinical parameters were compared between preoperative and follow-up visits, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), number of glaucoma medications, global VF metrics (mean deviation (MD), pattern standard deviation (PSD), Collaborative Initial Glaucoma Treatment Study (CIGTS) score on total deviation probability (CIGTS_TDP) and pattern deviation probability (CIGTS_PDP)), and regional metrics (regional total deviation (TD), regional pattern deviation (PD), and regional CIGTS_TDP and CIGTS_PDP). Multivariate regression analyses were performed to determine risk factors for VF worsening after GDD surgery. RESULTS A total of 106 eyes from 95 patients were included.
