The purpose of this study was to examine the expression of estrogen receptor α (ERα) and β (ERβ), androgen receptor (AR), SIRT1, SIRT2 and SIRT3 in prostate cancer (PCa).

From October 2010 to January 2015, 70 patients who had undergone radical prostatectomy following a PCa diagnosis were enrolled in our study. Normal prostate tissue (NPT) and prostate cancer tissues (PCAT) were separated, and the expression of each receptor in each tissue was analyzed with immunochemical staining. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify factors affecting the development of PCa.

ERβ and AR were highly expressed in PCAT compared with NPT (p<0.05). SIRT2 was highly expressed in NPT and PCAT (p<0.05). Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that AR and SIRT2 affect PCa development.

Amentoflavone, an effective compound derived from medicinal plants, has been shown to boost therapeutic efficacy of chemotherapy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, anti-NSCLC effect of amentoflavone is ambiguous. The major purpose of the present study was to verify the inhibitory effects of amentoflavone in NSCLC cells.

The effects of amentoflavone on growth and invasion of NSCLC CL-1-5-F4 cells were evaluated by cell viability assay, flow cytometry, colony formation assay, nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) reporter gene assay, immunofluorescence staining, transwell invasion, and western blot assay.

Amentoflavone effectively induced cell growth inhibition, G1 cell-cycle arrest, apoptosis, and suppression of invasion. Small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA) is a relatively rare malignant epithelial neoplasm. Thus, little is known about prognostic biomarkers of SBA. Annexin A10 (ANXA10) is a member of the annexin family. The significance of ANXA10 expression in SBA is unclear. This is the first study to examine the expression of ANXA10 in SBA.

We immunohistochemically evaluated ANXA10 expression of SBA and studied the relationship between ANXA10 expression and clinicopathological factors.

ANXA10 expression was detected in 17 (56.7%) of 30 SBA cases and was significantly associated with poor overall survival. Univariate predictors for poor prognosis were tumour size (p=0.017) and ANXA10 expression (p=0.026). In multivariate analysis, ANXA10 expression (p=0.038) and tumour size (p=0.024) were found to be independent predictors of poor prognosis.
