Reduced physical function and increased risk of falls in older adults are accompanied by age-related reductions in torque development of leg muscles, although the mechanisms and potential sex differences are not understood.
To determine the mechanistic origins (neural vs. muscular) for the age-related reduction in torque development, we compared the peak rates of torque development (RTD) during electrically-evoked and fast voluntary contractions of the knee extensors between young and older men and women.
Sets of single- and double-pulse electrical stimulations evoked contractions of the knee extensor muscles in 20 young (23.0 ± 0.8years; 10 women) and 20 older adults (78.2 ± 1.5years; 10 women), followed by voluntary isometric knee extension contractions with torque development as fast as possible that matched the torque during electrically-evoked contraction (10-40% maximal torque).

The nicotine noxious effect at those early stages may impact the system programming and plasticity in the long-term postnatal life. In this study, we analyze the circadian locomotor activity and learning efficiency rhythms in the juvenile male offspring of **** exposed to nicotine through pregnancy and lactation. Attenuated rhythm amplitude and relative power of the circadian component were found in the nicotine exposed offspring (pN). The acrophase (the best performance during a 24-h cycle) of learning efficiency was delayed and the long-term memory consolidation task failed after 8 days of learning experience. The aforementioned results suggest nicotine exposure in uterus modifies the circadian modulation related to the memory consolidation and locomotor systems as well as its environmental temporal synchronization.

Polyacrylamide gel (PAAG) migration after esthetic breast injection is clinically variable and complex, and thus, the rate of incomplete removal after debridement is high.
We aimed to describe a practical classification system for PAAG migration after breast injection and evaluate the outcome of our management.
A retrospective review of medical records was conducted for patients who presented to our institution for the management of PAAG migration after injection augmentation mammaplasty from June 2013 to November 2018. PAAG migration was evaluated by MRI examination and classified based on the migrating direction outside the breast contour. Surgery was performed to remove the material completely through different incisions.
Seventy-eight women met the study criteria, with 106 breasts identified as showing PAAG migration. Patients were classified as having superior (22%), lateral (25%), inferior (34%), medial (10%) or complex (9%) PAAG displacement. The mean follow-up was 9months (range 3-18months). Thirty-two taxa belonging to the phylum Ascomycota, Basidiomycota and Mortierellomycota were identified. Mortierella amoeboidea, Mortierella sp. 2, Mortierella sp. 3, Penicillium sp. 2 and Penicillium sp. 3 dominated the sulphite soils. Despite the multi-extreme physic-chemical conditions of the sulphate soils (low pH, variable content of macro and micronutrients and organic matter), the fungal assemblages exhibited moderate diversity indices, which ranged according to the degree of soil development. Soils with more weathered and, consequently, with highest values of organic carbon shelter the most diverse fungal assemblages, which can be associated with the occurrence of sulphurisation and sulphide oxidation. Different taxa of Mortierella and Penicillium displayed broad pH (3-9) and temperature (5-35 °C) plasticity. The multi-extreme sulphite soils of Antarctica revealed the presence of moderate fungal diversity comprising cold cosmopolitan and psychrophilic endemic taxa.
