End-stage liver disease (ESLD) is life-threatening disease worldwide, and patients with ESLD should be referred to liver transplantation (LT). However, the use of LT is limited by the lacking liver source, high cost and organ rejection. Thus, other alternative options have been explored. Stem cell therapy may be a potential alternative for ESLD treatment. With the potential of self-renewal and differentiation, both hepatic and extrahepatic stem cells have attracted a lot of attention. Among them, multipotent stem cells are most widely studies owing to their characteristics. Multipotent stem cells mainly consist of two subpopulations hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and mesenchymal stem cells (****). Accumulating evidences have proved that either bone marrow (BM)-derived HSCs mobilized by granulocyte colony-stimulating factor or **** transplantation can improve the biochemical indicators of patients with ESLD. However, there are some challenges to be resolved before stem cells widely used in clinic, including the best stem cell source, the optimal route for stem cells transplantation, and the dose and frequency of stem cell injected. The purpose of this review is to discuss the potential of stem cell in liver diseases, particularly, the clinical progress and challenges of multipotent stem cells in the field of ESLD.Mesenchymal stem cells (****) are being developed for stem cell therapy and can be efficiently used in regenerative medicine. Islet transplantation might be a logical strategy to restore insulin secretion for the treatment of diabetes, however, the scarcity of donors poses an obstacle for such a treatment. As an alternative islet source, differentiation of stem cells into insulin-producing cells (IPCs) has been tried. Many protocols have been developed to improve the efficiency of differentiation of stem cells into IPCs. In this study, we investigated whether glucosamine supplementation during differentiation of human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) into IPCs can improve the insulin secretory function.
Glucosamine was added to the original differentiation medium at different stages of differentiation of hADSCs into IPCs for 12 days and insulin secretion was analyzed.
Addition of glucosamine alone to the growth medium of hADSCs did not affect the differentiation of hADSCs to IPCs. Supplementation of the differentiation medium with glucosamine at a later stage (protocol G3) proved to have the greatest effect on IPC differentiation. Basal and glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) was significantly increased and the expression of insulin and C-peptide was increased in differentiated IPCs as compared with that in differentiated IPCs using the conventional protocol (protocol C). She was admitted to our hospital 13 days after the procedure. The patient presented with cholangitis and acute biliary pancreatitis and underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Active hemobilia was observed during the ERCP, and sphincterotomy and stent placement were carried out. Angiography was performed because of ongoing bleeding and demonstrated multiple arterioportal fistulas. The bleeding vessel was successfully embolized through an angiographic catheter with microcoils and Histoacryl glue.
Revisional procedures in bariatric surgery are regarded as technically more demanding and riskier than primary interventions. While the use of the surgical robot has not yet proven to be advantageous in primary bariatric interventions, the question remains whether its use is justified for more complex revisional procedures.
To show that revisional bariatric surgery can be performed safely using the da Vinci® Xi surgical system.
We performed a retrospective analysis of prospectively recorded data for revisional bariatric procedures between January 2016 and November 2019.

This paper reviews both these actual developments and anticipated future trends, and concludes that since these advances in diagnosis and treatment of lung-cancer have had only a modest effect on cost-effectiveness, it is still important to conduct radon monitoring and remediation programmes. While the general increase in life-expectancy improves the cost-effectiveness of radon remediation programmes significantly, reducing tobacco-smoking incidence reduces that cost-effectiveness but with the overall benefit of reducing radon-related lung-cancers. The challenge remains of encouraging affected householders to remediate their homes to reduce radon levels.This study examined the temporal variations in radiocesium concentration associated with sinking particles in the northeastern Japan Sea between September 2010 and July 2012. We analyzed sediment trap samples from this period after the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident in March 2011. Cesium-134 was detected in samples collected between May and July 2011 at a depth of 1100 m (4.2-11 mBq g-dry-1) but not in other periods at 1100 m or deeper (3100 and 3500 m). These results confirmed the deposition of FDNPP-derived radiocesium on the surface water in the late April 2011, which rapidly sank with sinking particles to a depth of at least 1100 m, in the northeastern Japan Sea, about 40 days after the deposition in the North Pacific. If FDNPP-derived 137Cs was excluded, no seasonal changes were detected in the 137Cs activity concentration of the sinking particles, and the 137Cs activity concentration of the particles increased with increasing depth. Judging from the concentration of 137Cs of sinking particle and seasonal variation of total mass flux and organic matter content, the lithogenic particle seems to be important for radiocesium associated with sinking particles. These data also strongly suggest a difference in sinking features of particles between 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 deployments. Due to the existence of benthic front, shallow water (1100 m) and deep water (3500 m) are separated during 2010-2011 deployment, but in the winter of 2011-2012, this front disappeared and the particles in surface water seem to have sunk to the depth of 3100 m. The sinking velocity of the particles at 1100 m was estimated to be 33-62 m day-1, with a mean sinking velocity of 43 m day-1. These values were comparable to those estimated at depths shallower than 1000 m in the North Pacific after the FDNPP accident, or in the Mediterranean, North, and Black Seas after the Chernobyl accident.Early observations of the tritium (3H) activity in precipitation from Switzerland started in 1967 in Bern and a monitoring program with improved analytical techniques was carried out between 1971 and 2009. Between 2012 and 2015, we performed tritium analyses on daily precipitation samples from north-western Switzerland to better constrain the tritium variability. We also collected waters dripping inside Milandre Cave (Jura Mountains) with a 4-6 months' resolution in order to estimate the age of the drip water, which is mandatory to interpret the high-resolution speleothem (cave carbonate deposits) records. Over the monitoring period, the mean tritium concentration in the daily precipitation samples was approximately 8.7 ± 4.7 TU with distinct seasonality showing higher values in spring and summer (from April-May to August-September). The similarity in trends with the other cosmogenic radionuclide beryllium-7 (7Be) suggests that, for the study site, tritium in precipitation essentially originates from stratospheric input in spring. In winter, precipitation dynamics with increasing moisture originating from the Atlantic and diluted during transport contribute to low values close to the Atlantic background. In cave drip water, the depleted activity level of tritium indicates a relatively long percolation time from the surface to the cave of several years. A residual superimposed short tritium variability provides evidence for the occurrence of fast flowing water paths. The contribution from both components were quantified based on a two-component lumped parameter-mixing model. Finally, we show that tritium concentrations in cave drip water are linked to the moisture origin and atmospheric transport pathways.The novel approach for optimising soil sampling strategies in areas affected by radionuclides is suggested. Major factors influencing the efficiency of soil sampling strategies, including (number of samples, sampling area size, sampling depth and spatial resolution of the sample sites are examined to provide optimisation of the soil sampling plan. The experimental field studies to validate the suggested approach were performed in 25 sampling units ranging from 1.2 × 1.2 m to 60 × 60 m size. Application of the pulse shape discrimination method allows us to select and separately measure both thermal neutrons and radioactive beta-decay nuclides being products of radon decays in air (mostly Rn-222 and Rn-220). There are two en-detector setups running now at BNO, one deep underground while another one at surface. Both installations had recorded some strange sporadic increases of radioactive nuclides in air. In this paper, we present results and the most probable explanation of the significant increases joint by radioactive aerosols production but caused by different reasons Baksan river floods or nearby underground experiment with powerful Cr-51 radioactive source.

Since the World Health Organisation declaration of COVID-19 as a global pandemic in early March 2020, the virus has been linked with serious illness, death, and social disruption around the world. The scope of the outbreak is rapidly evolving and ever changing. Many countries, cities and towns declared major closures and issued shelter-in-place orders. While phased re-opening is now occuring in many countries, the impact of the pandemic has been unprecedented. It is widely accepted that healthcare education and practice, including interprofessional education and collaborative practice, has been and will continue to be affected in profound ways. However, the severity and extent of the impact is yet to be determined and is likely to vary internationally. The study protocol reported here is a first attempt to systematically capture observations, experiences, and reflections globally with a view to identifying priorities for interprofessional education and collaborative practice research and development in the years to come, as well as inform future pandemic preparedness.This study has three specific aims. First, examine gambling participation and problem gambling rates for 2019. Second, compare 2019 rates of gambling participation and problem gambling to 2016 to determine if rates increased, decreased or stayed the same. Third, examine what demographic, psychosocial and behavioral variables are associated with adolescent problem gambling. The 2019 sample includes 55,552 male and 58,155 female Minnesota public school students enrolled in the 8th, 9th, and 11th grades and the 2016 sample includes 58,232 male and 59,294 female students from 8th, 9th, and 11th grades. Students were administered the Minnesota Student Survey. For 2019, the gambling participation rate was 29.6%, the frequent gambling rate was 6.5%. There was no change in the problem gambling rate (0.5%) between 2016 and 2019. Tobacco use and antisocial behaviors were related to problem gambling but only accounted for 16% of the variance in problem gambling. There is a small segment of the adolescent population that gambles excessively and experiences problems associated with their gambling.
To describe ocular findings in Turkish patients with Fuchs' uveitis (FU).
The medical records of FU were retrospectively reviewed.
The study included 281 eyes of 258 patients with FU. There were diffusely spread keratic precipitates (KPs)[(medium sized in 253 (90.0%) eyes, stellate-medium in 28 (10%) eyes)], Koeppe nodules (KN) in 64 (22.8%) eyes and cataract in 129 (45.9%) eyes. There was vitreous infiltration of varying grades in all eyes (100%) with grade 1 haze in 96 (34.2%) eyes, grade 2 haze in 69 (24.6%) eyes, and grade 3 haze in 63 (22.4%) eyes. At a functional level, CRISPR-Cas9-mediated knockout of the SIX6 gene in TAL1 positive Jurkat cells induced changes in genes associated with the mTOR-, K-RAS-, and TNFα-related molecular signatures but did not impair cell proliferation or viability. There was also no acceleration of T-ALL development within a ****driven zebrafish tumor model in vivo. Since the World Health Organisation declaration of COVID-19 as a global pandemic in early March 2020, the virus has been linked with serious illness, death, and social disruption around the world. The scope of the outbreak is rapidly evolving and ever changing. Many countries, cities and towns declared major closures and issued shelter-in-place orders. While phased re-opening is now occuring in many countries, the impact of the pandemic has been unprecedented. It is widely accepted that healthcare education and practice, including interprofessional education and collaborative practice, has been and will continue to be affected in profound ways. However, the severity and extent of the impact is yet to be determined and is likely to vary internationally. The study protocol reported here is a first attempt to systematically capture observations, experiences, and reflections globally with a view to identifying priorities for interprofessional education and collaborative practice research and development in the years to come, as well as inform future pandemic preparedness.This study has three specific aims. First, examine gambling participation and problem gambling rates for 2019. Second, compare 2019 rates of gambling participation and problem gambling to 2016 to determine if rates increased, decreased or stayed the same. Third, examine what demographic, psychosocial and behavioral variables are associated with adolescent problem gambling. The 2019 sample includes 55,552 male and 58,155 female Minnesota public school students enrolled in the 8th, 9th, and 11th grades and the 2016 sample includes 58,232 male and 59,294 female students from 8th, 9th, and 11th grades. Students were administered the Minnesota Student Survey. For 2019, the gambling participation rate was 29.6%, the frequent gambling rate was 6.5%. He emergently received intravenous (IV) methylene blue (MB) with immediate and sustained improvement requiring no further doses. Though inhalation of nitrites and subsequent methemoglobinemia is frequently reported in adolescents, we were unable to find any cases in the literature detailing ingestion of this product and the resulting clinical manifestations. Our objective with this report is to describe a rare case of a toddler with an accidental ingestion of "Rush" nail polish remover, a nitrite compound. Our patient presented to the PED with abrupt onset of altered level of consciousness, hypotension, and cyanosis resulting from acquired methemoglobinemia. This case report demonstrates the importance of emergency clinicians being able to make clinical judgements and decisions based on the history and physical exam when methemoglobinemia is suspected.Learning dependence relationships among variables of mixed types provides insights in a variety of scientific settings and is a well-studied problem in statistics. Existing methods, however, typically rely on copious, high quality data to accurately learn associations. In this paper, we develop a method for scientific settings where learning dependence structure is essential, but data are sparse and have a high fraction of missing values. Specifically, our work is motivated by survey-based cause of death assessments known as verbal autopsies (VAs). We propose a Bayesian approach to characterize dependence relationships using a latent Gaussian graphical model that incorporates informative priors on the marginal distributions of the variables. We demonstrate such information can improve estimation of the dependence structure, especially in settings with little training data. We show that our method can be integrated into existing probabilistic cause-of-death assignment algorithms and improves model performance while recovering dependence patterns between symptoms that can inform efficient questionnaire design in future data collection.The purpose of the current study was to explore the effect of autologous adipose tissue on cartilage responses to lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Media from adipose tissue explants was assayed for c3a/c3a des Arg and PGE2. LPS produced a significant increase in PGE2, GAG, and NO production when cartilage was cultured in the absence of adipose tissue. More recently, the demonstration of dysmorphic lysosomes in renal biopsies has favored a toxic etiology. There are thus many gaps in the understanding of this serious disease prevalent among poorer populations.This study is conducted with the aim of investigating the efficiency of open and closed-circuit molybdenite ore comminution processes (primary and secondary mill, respectively), through mineralogical study of mills feed and product. For this purpose, particle size distribution, minerals distribution, degree of liberation and interlocking of minerals in mills feed and product were studied. According to the results, chalcopyrite, molybdenite, pyrite and covellite constitute the major part of the mineral composition of open-circuit mill feed. Minerals at the mill product, in the order of abundance include liberated molybdenite particles, liberated chalcopyrite and interlocked chalcopyrite with pyrite, liberated and interlocked pyrite particles, and associated silicate gangues. The d50 values of the feed and product particles of the open-circuit mill are equal to 13.80 and 13.40 microns, respectively. Degree of liberation of molybdenite for the feed and product of this mill is almost the same and is equal to 98.0%.

Pregnancy planning varies among women with diabetes. Observing that the literature examining the factors affecting diabetic women's pregnancy intentions in multi-ethnic Asian populations is limited, we sought to explore these factors to give a better perspective on these women's pregnancy planning.
This qualitative study used individual in-depth interviews to capture the views and experiences of non-pregnant diabetic women of reproductive age in four public health clinics in a southwestern state of peninsular Malaysia from May 2016 to February 2017. The participants were purposively sampled according to ethnicity and were interviewed using a semi-structured topic guide. Interviews were audio-recorded, and transcripts were analysed using thematic analysis.
From the 33 interviews that were analysed, four important factors influencing participants' decisions regarding pregnancy planning were identified. Participants' perception of poor pregnancy outcomes due to advanced age and medical condition was found ligious beliefs and the impact of cultural demands on pregnancy intention. This study urges healthcare providers to increase their engagement with the women in pregnancy planning in a more personalised approach.Maintaining the pairwise relationship among originally high-dimensional data into a low-dimensional binary space is a popular strategy to learn binary codes. One simple and intuitive method is to utilize two identical code matrices produced by hash functions to approximate a pairwise real label matrix. However, the resulting quartic problem in term of hash functions is difficult to directly solve due to the non-convex and non-smooth nature of the objective. In this paper, unlike previous optimization methods using various relaxation strategies, we aim to directly solve the original quartic problem using a novel alternative optimization mechanism to linearize the quartic problem by introducing a linear regression model. Additionally, we find that gradually learning each batch of binary codes in a sequential mode, i.e. batch by batch, is greatly beneficial to the convergence of binary code learning. Based on this significant discovery and the proposed strategy, we introduce a scalable symmetric discrete hashing algorithm that gradually and smoothly updates each batch of binary codes. To further improve the smoothness, we also propose a greedy symmetric discrete hashing algorithm to update each bit of batch binary codes. Moreover, we extend the proposed optimization mechanism to solve the non-convex optimization problems for binary code learning in many other pairwise based hashing algorithms. Extensive experiments on benchmark single-label and multi-label databases demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed mechanism over recent state-of-the-art methods on two kinds of retrieval tasks similarity and ranking order. In this second group, data in favour of prophylactic antiviral treatment with valganciclovir to reduce CMV disease is sparse. In this retrospective and multicentric trial, we included 372 CMV R+ transplanted between January 2012 and April 2015 and receiving non-depleting induction. During the first year following transplantation, CMV disease occurred in 5/222 patients (2.25%) in the prophylaxis group and 9/150 (6%) in the no-prophylaxis group (difference + 3.7; 95%CI - 0.5 to 8; p=0.002 for non-inferiority). The incidence of allograft rejection and other infectious diseases was similar between the 2 groups. Graft and patient survival were similar at the end of follow-up. In a study of 55 patients (from 60 to 87 years), conducted for the first time from the point of view of medical and social rehabilitation, data were obtained that reveal the nature of physical limitations of this group of people, which significantly complicate them use of standard clothing and shoes. The main conclusion of the work is the relevance of the development of medical and technical requirements for the design and production of clothing and footwear specifically for the elderly and senile taking into account their changed anthropometric parameters and their characteristic functional limitations.
Dapone and atovaquone are therapeutic options for PJP prophylaxis in renal transplant recipients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the incidence of anemia in renal transplant recipients receiving these agents.
This is an IRB-approved, retrospective analysis of adult renal transplant recipients who received either dapsone or atovaquone. The primary endpoint was the change in hemoglobin within 90days of drug initiation. A total of 478 patients were screened for inclusion; 50 patients were evaluated in both the dapsone and atovaquone groups. Observing that the literature examining the factors affecting diabetic women's pregnancy intentions in multi-ethnic Asian populations is limited, we sought to explore these factors to give a better perspective on these women's pregnancy planning. This qualitative study used individual in-depth interviews to capture the views and experiences of non-pregnant diabetic women of reproductive age in four public health clinics in a southwestern state of peninsular Malaysia from May 2016 to February 2017. The participants were purposively sampled according to ethnicity and were interviewed using a semi-structured topic guide. Interviews were audio-recorded, and transcripts were analysed using thematic analysis. From the 33 interviews that were analysed, four important factors influencing participants' decisions regarding pregnancy planning were identified. Participants' perception of poor pregnancy outcomes due to advanced age and medical condition was found ligious beliefs and the impact of cultural demands on pregnancy intention. This study urges healthcare providers to increase their engagement with the women in pregnancy planning in a more personalised approach.Maintaining the pairwise relationship among originally high-dimensional data into a low-dimensional binary space is a popular strategy to learn binary codes. One simple and intuitive method is to utilize two identical code matrices produced by hash functions to approximate a pairwise real label matrix. However, the resulting quartic problem in term of hash functions is difficult to directly solve due to the non-convex and non-smooth nature of the objective. In this paper, unlike previous optimization methods using various relaxation strategies, we aim to directly solve the original quartic problem using a novel alternative optimization mechanism to linearize the quartic problem by introducing a linear regression model. Additionally, we find that gradually learning each batch of binary codes in a sequential mode, i.e. batch by batch, is greatly beneficial to the convergence of binary code learning. Based on this significant discovery and the proposed strategy, we introduce a scalable symmetric discrete hashing algorithm that gradually and smoothly updates each batch of binary codes. To further improve the smoothness, we also propose a greedy symmetric discrete hashing algorithm to update each bit of batch binary codes. Moreover, we extend the proposed optimization mechanism to solve the non-convex optimization problems for binary code learning in many other pairwise based hashing algorithms. Extensive experiments on benchmark single-label and multi-label databases demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed mechanism over recent state-of-the-art methods on two kinds of retrieval tasks similarity and ranking order. In this second group, data in favour of prophylactic antiviral treatment with valganciclovir to reduce CMV disease is sparse. In this retrospective and multicentric trial, we included 372 CMV R+ transplanted between January 2012 and April 2015 and receiving non-depleting induction. During the first year following transplantation, CMV disease occurred in 5/222 patients (2.25%) in the prophylaxis group and 9/150 (6%) in the no-prophylaxis group (difference + 3.7; 95%CI - 0.5 to 8; p=0.002 for non-inferiority). The incidence of allograft rejection and other infectious diseases was similar between the 2 groups. Graft and patient survival were similar at the end of follow-up. In a study of 55 patients (from 60 to 87 years), conducted for the first time from the point of view of medical and social rehabilitation, data were obtained that reveal the nature of physical limitations of this group of people, which significantly complicate them use of standard clothing and shoes. New and developing technologies offer exciting opportunities to improve the current toxicity testing paradigms to provide better solutions and diminish animal testing. However, students often show low motivation to read assigned articles, and under-prepared students contribute little to in-class discussions. In order to promote student engagement in graduate-level journal clubs, we used an inverted, student-centered format that focuses on a scientific question or topic rather than specific publications. Both the weekly topics and the scientific publications were selected by the students and focused on aspects of the students' thesis research. For each weekly topic, students were asked to find papers, read the papers and summarize the findings during class, which led to the presentation of a variety of approaches and viewpoints. This approach trained students in literature search, focused reading and oral presentation skills and provided a broad overview of the research in the selected topic areas. Student feedback showed a high level of acceptance of the new format. We propose this inverted journal club format as a useful alternative to traditional formats, because it focuses on a different scientific skill set and leads to increased student engagement through its student-centered approach. © 2020 International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.BACKGROUND Phytophthora capsici is a destructive plant oomycete pathogen that could lead to devastating losses in food production. Fungicide application is the main way to control plant disease caused by P. capsici. SYP-14288, a novel fungicide with a unique mode of action, could be used to control a broad range of plant diseases. Here, the potential for SYP-14288 resistance in P. capsici and the resistance mechanism involved were evaluated. RESULTS Baseline sensitivities of 133 isolates to SYP-14288 were determined and found to conform to a unimodal curve with a mean half-maximal effective concentration (EC50 ) of 0.625 μg mL-1 . In total, 21 stable SYP-14288-resistant mutants were generated by fungicide adaptation in three sensitive isolates. The fitness of all the mutants was found to be lower than that of the parental isolates. Otherwise, downregulation of various ATPases may confer different resistance levels in P. capsici. Finally, multiple biochemical studies strongly suggest that both ATP content and electric potential were reduced in SYP-14288-resistant mutants, and as a compensatory mechanism, respiration was facilitated to make up for the energy defect in mutants. CONCLUSION The low fitness of SYP-14288-resistant mutants suggests that the resistance risk of P. capsici to SYP-14288 is low. Resistance may be led by a permeability change in the mitochondrial inner membrane in SYP-14288-resistant isolates, and lower ATP consumption lifestyles may be key to the SYP-14288 resistance generated in P. capsici. In this study we investigate (i) the responses of L. rigidum populations and wheat to the new herbicide cinmethylin in comparison with other pre-emergence herbicides, (ii) the effect of seed burial depths on cinmethylin efficacy and crop selectivity, and (iii) the basis of cinmethylin selectivity in wheat. RESULTS Cinmethylin at 400 g ha-1 controls herbicide-susceptible and multiple-resistant L. rigidum, with a reduction of >85% in plant emergence and 90% in aboveground biomass. Cinmethylin provides effective control of a large number of field populations of L. rigidum with evident resistance to trifluralin. When the wheat seed is buried ≥1 cm below the cinmethylin-treated soil surface, the emergence of crop seedlings is not different from the untreated control. The organophosphate insecticide phorate synergizes cinmethylin toxicity in wheat, with an LD50 of 682 g ha-1 in the absence of phorate versus 109 g ha-1 in the presence of phorate (84% reduction).

We sought to determine whether high-density lipoprotein (HDL) function was altered in gout patients.
The study included 95 gout patients and 68 healthy controls. The concentrations of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-9 were measured by ELISA, and indicators such as blood uric acid, liver and kidney function, blood glucose, and blood lipids were detected. To test for the anti-inflammatory and reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) function of HDL, 11 gout patients and 11 healthy controls were randomly selected for the BioVision cholesterol efflux test, which detects the RCT activity of HDL. To assess the anti-inflammatory function of HDL, cells in co-culture with HDL were treated with inflammatory stimuli such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and then, the cells were assayed for the expression of intercellular adhesion molecules (ICAMs) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1).

Sixty-eight of 82 (83%) eligible residents participated in this intervention. We evaluated 248 reflection worksheets using content analysis. Major themes that emerged from chart review included residents' identification of future clinical practice changes, evolution of differential diagnoses, recognition of clinical reasoning gaps, and evaluation of resident-provider interactions.

The objective of this review is to develop a comprehensive description of burnout and compassion fatigue, including risk/protective factors, among organ and tissue donation coordinators worldwide.
Research on turnover rates among organ and tissue donation coordinators has shown that job tenure generally lasts less than three years, a possible consequence of burnout and compassion fatigue. Increased turnover rates of organ and tissue donation coordinators have significant impact on the ability of ODOs to optimize organ donation. This current scoping review will help inform understanding of the nature of burnout and compassion fatigue in this population as well as the available strategies for managing it.
Articles examining health care professionals working as organ and tissue donation coordinators, with the main concepts of interest being burnout and/or compassion fatigue, will be considered. Articles within the context of organ and tissue donation coordinators in acute care settings at any part of the oS, PsycINFO, and PTSDpubs, while appropriate gray literature will be searched. Two reviewers will screen the papers according to predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, extract data for specific variables, and perform descriptive examination.

Computerized searches will be conducted in seven electronic databases. Gray literature and searches in the reference list of the included articles will also be screened. Titles/abstracts of the references retrieved will be assessed. The full text of references whose titles/abstracts contain insufficient information will also be evaluated. References that meet the eligibility criteria will be included without restriction on the language or date of publication. Data extraction, the assessment, and review of information and assessment of the methodological quality of the included articles will be performed. However, the content and outcomes of these interventions are disjointed, and there is currently no unified indicator to evaluate virtual reality educational programs.
This review will consider studies that include educational programs using virtual reality for health science students, health care professionals, and family caregivers of people with dementia. All study designs will be considered.
The proposed scoping review will be conducted following the JBI methodology for scoping reviews. The databases to be searched include MEDLINE, CINAHL, Embase, Cochraindings relevant to the review objective and be presented in diagrammatic or tabular form in a manner that aligns with the objective of this scoping review.

Behavioral eHealth interventions offer convenient and frequent accessibility at low cost and high reach. A search of the extant literature including PROSPERO, MEDLINE (PubMed), the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and the JBI Database of Systematic Reviews and Implementation Reports revealed no published or in-progress reviews examining eHealth physical activity interventions among pregnant and/or postpartum populations.
Studies of eHealth interventions including pregnant and/or within one-year postpartum populations will be included.
This review will be conducted in accordance with JBI methodology for systematic reviews of effectiveness. The search strategy will aim to locate studies from the inception of each database. Included studies will be appraised for methodological quality using JBI standardized critical appraisal instruments. Extracted data will include study methods, intervention design and outcomes (physical activity, weight, participant sociodemographic characteristics). The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach for grading the certainty of evidence will be followed.

To determine the impact of a drug deactivation system to post-surgical patients on the rate of opioid prescription disposal.
Two hundred post-operative patients discharged after inpatient surgery at a large academic medical center. This study was conducted August 20, 2018, through November 30, 2018. Patients were provided with a drug deactivation system (DDS) and instruction sheetalong with their opioid prescription. Three to 4 weeks after dismissal, patients were surveyed about quantity of opioids remaining, use of DDS or other disposal methods, and satisfaction with DDS if used.
One hundred forty-nine of 200 (74.5%) patients were surveyed. One hundred six reported leftover opioids and 29 (27.3%) had disposed of these medications. By the time of survey, 23 (21.2%) participants with leftover opioids had used the DDS to destroy their remaining supply and an additional 33 (31.1%) participants reported plans to use the disposal bag on a future date. Of the 23 participants who used the DDS, 22 (96.0%) reported that they were very satisfied with the disposal process.
Participants are willing to use a DDS and are satisfied with the process; however, additional education is needed to ensure timely disposal.

To describe patient preparation for routine outpatient blood work and examine the implications of surreptitious fasting on interpretation of glucose results.
We designed a survey and administered it between September 1, 2016, and April 30, 2017, to assess fasting behaviors in a convenience sample of 526 adults presenting for outpatient blood work in 2 health systems between 7 am and 12 pm. We reviewed the electronic health records to extract glucose results. We describe the frequency of clinician-directed fasting and surreptitious fasting. In those surreptitiously fasting, we describe the frequency of missed diagnoses of prediabetes and diabetes.
Of 526 participants, 330 (62.7%) self-identified as fasting, and 304 (92.1%) of those fasting met American Diabetes Association fasting criteria. Only 131 (24.9%) of those fasting were told to fast by their health care team. Almost 50% (257 of 526) believed it was important to fast for every blood test. Of the 64 patients with diabetes who were taking insulin, 37 (57.8%) fasted and took their insulin as prescribed. Among the 89 patients without diabetes who fasted without knowledge of their health care team and had glucose tested, 2 (2.2%) had a missed diagnosis of diabetes and 18 (20.2%) had a missed diagnosis of prediabetes.

This case is unique because surgical fixation of the spine was delayed, and despite clearance of the infection with antibiotics, the patient developed cervical myelopathy and required instrumented spinal fusion surgery. He presented with 1 month of fever, headache and worsening neck stiffness. An MRI of his cervical spine showed C1/C2 osteomyelitis with atlantoaxial subluxation. He was initially treated non-operatively with prolonged intravenous antibiotics and external immobilisation of his cervical spine. However, the first course of antibiotics failed, and he represented with a progression of his infection to the contralateral ear. He declined surgical intervention and completed a second course of antibiotics. Unfortunately, he eventually progressed to cervical myelopathy and subsequently underwent posterior C1 decompression with occipital to C4 instrumentation. There was no biochemical or bacterial culture evidence of infection at the time of the surgery. This case highlights the potential challenges in the management of cervical osteomyelitis-optimal duration of antibiotics is not supported by strong evidence and the clinician will therefore have to decide each treatment in the context of the patient. Spinal instability may still remain an issue after adequate treatment of the infection.The course of dermatomyositis (DM) can be complicated by multi-organ failure, by complex pathophysiological mechanisms involving autoantibodies. Autoantibodies linked to ILD are anti Jo-1, PL12, PL7, EJ, and OJ and anti Mi 2. Our case describes a fifty-three years old woman who presented with symptoms of lower respiratory tract infection, diagnosed with CADM based on typical skin rash and polyarthritis and anti-CADM 140 antibodies.
