Intraorbital encephalocele (OMEC) is a rare entity in adults, usually secondary to an orbital pathology or prior trauma, in particular orbital roof fractures. Treatment of the OMEC is warranted to alleviate the pulsating exophthalmos and prevent potential visual decline. OMEC and orbital roof fractures have been predominantly treated via a craniotomy with a reconstruction of the orbital roof using various implants. With the advances in the endoscopic techniques, neuroendoscopy found its application in the treatment of orbital pathologies. We report a minimally invasive alternative endoscopic transorbital repair of OMEC.
The repair technique is described with illustrations and clinical images. Narrated operative video demonstrating the procedure is provided.
Illustrative case 50-year-old female presented with progressive right eye proptosis over 6 months. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated bony erosion in the lateral orbital roof, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a small hyperintense T2-weighted and T1-weighted contrast enhancing lesion in the orbit, in the area of the bony erosion. Intraoperatively, the lesion was found to be an orbital encephalocele. The orbital defect was successfully repaired by employing the 'sandwich' technique, in which a dural substitute reinforced with tissue glue were deployed without repair of the osseous orbital roof. The patient tolerated the procedure well with ultimate resolution of proptosis. The cosmetic outcome was excellent.

Assessments were defined as clinical- and instrumental tools and rating scales. Interventions were defined as rehabilitation interventions alleviating CFP.Results 690 articles were screened based on the title and abstract. Interrater agreement was 98.12%. Sixteen articles were included six clinical trials and 10 observational studies. Assessment Commonest scale for assessing CFP was the House-Brackmann facial nerve Grading System. Strain gauges for measuring lip and cheek strength were applied in five studies and neurophysiological methods of assessing motor neuron pathways were applied in three studies. Interventions An oral screen for improving lip strength was reported in three studies. Results from studies investigating life satisfaction, positive affect and happiness of near-centenarians (95+) and centenarians are inconsistent. This is the first systematic review to summarise the extant literature on the subjective well-being of this unique age group.
Seven electronic databases (PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Web of Science and the Cochrane database for systematic reviews) were systematically searched. Subjective well-being was defined as life satisfaction, positive affect and happiness. A narrative synthesis of relevant articles was undertaken.
Of 28 studies eligible for inclusion in this review, 20 predominantly examined life satisfaction, 11 positive affect and 4 happiness. Sex and other demographic variables were not significant predictors of subjective well-being. In contrast, greater perceived health was significantly associated with higher levels of life satisfaction and positive affect. Fatigue and visual impairment were significantly correlated with lower levels ns on subjective well-being. Future research should be directed towards interventions that promote subjective well-being in the oldest-old.Purpose To evaluate changes in oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and associated factors in individuals with acquired brain injury (ABI) during hospitalization.Methods Forty-six individuals with ABI were examined at week 1 and 5 of hospitalization. Association between variables were investigated using factor analysis and multilevel regression modeling.Results There were no significant differences in the OHIP-14 scores between week 1 and 5. Factors analysis revealed two OHIP-14 domains, 'psychosocial' and 'physica'. Individuals who improved their cognitive skills over study period and those with 'severe' periodontitis at baseline had increased scores of OHIP-14 'psychosocial' domain. Individuals who improved orofacial health-related 'motor' skills over study period had decreased 'physical' domain scores.

In recent decades, several studies have found a strong association between prolonged use of video display terminals and ophthalmological symptoms encompassed in the so-called computer visual syndrome (CVS). Few studies have addressed this syndrome in graduate students.
Observational, cross-sectional descriptive study. A total of 106 postgraduate students were surveyed without ophthalmological pathologies. The diagnosis of CVS was made by means of the questionnaire of Seguí et al. validated in Spanish, which evaluates the frequency and intensity of 16 ocular symptoms.
The prevalence of CVS among graduate university students was 62.3% (95% CI 52.3-71.5). It was found that the highest proportion of students with the syndrome was in the group of older than 40 years old (88.2%) and in the group 21-30 years old (70.0%), showing statistically significant differences (p=0.004). According to the device and its time of use, students who used the mobile phone for 7 to 10hours a day showed a higher prevalence of CVS compared to those who used the device for less time (p=0.030). This cross-sectional study examined how transaction sales limits on recreational cannabis translate to tetrahydrocannabinol doses among U.S. states allowing commercial cannabis sales as of January 1, 2020. Weight-based quantity limits by cannabis type (flower/bud, concentrates, and edibles) were converted into grams of tetrahydrocannabinol content per transaction using known potency values in 2020.
Weight-based sales limits for flower and concentrate vary considerably across states (range=1.0-2.5 oz for flower and 3.5-15.0 g for concentrate), whereas limits for edible cannabis are heterogeneous. Cross-sectional data from a 2018 online panel survey were analyzed. A total of 4,088 panel members were recruited by mail using probability-based, random sampling by address. Respondents were asked about their most recent sunburn, and analyses were limited to those who remembered their most recent sunburn (N=3,106). Data were weighted to match the U.S. Current Population Survey proportions; analyses were conducted in 2018 and 2019.

Previously boosted adults had significantly higher pre-vaccination IgG concentrations for all vaccine-antigens, and more were seropositive for pertussis toxin (PT)-specific IgG (≥ 5 IU/mL) (69.5%; 95% confidence interval (CI) 59.5-79.5) than adults in the naïve group (45.2%; 95% CI 32.8-57.5). Tdap vaccination significantly increased IgG responses 1 month post-vaccination in both groups. This increase was more rapid in prevcination in paediatric healthcare workers at least every 10 years. The aim of this evidence-based practice project was to improve Knowledge and Skills, Openness and Support, and Oppression Awareness for emergency nurses when providing care to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer population in the military health system.
The single-unit, educational intervention posttest compared with unit personnel historical controls project took place in an emergency department within the military health system. The participants included registered nurses or licensed practical nurses working in the emergency department. The Ally Identity Measure tool was administered to an unmatched convenience sample of emergency nurses in a military health system pre- and postintervention to assess the intervention's effectiveness. Descriptive statistics and group difference testing (t test) were used.

Regular risk assessment is recommended in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) management to improve patient outcomes. The REVEAL risk score (RRS) predicts survival in patients with PAH, including those from the PATENT study, which assessed riociguat, a soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator approved for PAH treatment. An updated version, RRS 2.0, has been developed to further refine risk prediction.

At PATENT-1 Week 12, riociguat improved RRS 2.0 versus placebo (least-squares mean difference versus placebo -1.0 [95% confidence interval - 1.4 to -0.6; p < 0.0001]) and more patients improved risk stratum with riociguat (57%) versus placebo (42%). These improvements were maintained at PATENT-2 Week 12. RRS 2.0 score and risk strata at PATENT-1 baseline and Week 12 were significantly associated with survival and CWFS in PATENT-2 (p < 0.0001); change in RRS 2.0 score from PATENT-1 baseline to Week 12 was also significantly associated with outcomes.

Debate exists on the prognostic significance of spontaneous myocardial infarction (SMI) and periprocedural myocardial infarction (PMI), which could be diagnosed by various definitions.
A total of 10,724 patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were consecutively enrolled and followed up for a median of 2.4 years. We evaluated outcomes of all-cause death, cardiac death, and major adverse cardiovascular events (****). Patients were stratified into three groups, including the No MI group, PMI group, and SMI group. PMI was defined based on different diagnostic criteria, including the third and fourth universal myocardial infarction (MI) definitions, the society for cardiovascular angiography and interventions (SCAI) definition, and the independent biomarker definition. Regardless of these definitions, the PMI groups were all associated with a significantly increased **** risk at one year or 1000 days (all P < 0.05), but not all-cause or cardiac death. The SMI group was associated with a markedly elevated risk of death and ****, but it showed no significant different risk of **** to PMI using varying definitions.

To understand the genetic basis of seed size/weight in chickpea, we performed genome resequencing of 13 small- and 5 large-seeded genotypes using Illumina platform. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and insertions/deletions (InDels) differentiating small- and large-seeded genotypes were identified. A total of 17,902 SNPs and 2594 InDels located in promoter and/or coding regions that may contribute to seed size/weight were detected. Of these, 266 SNPs showed significant association with seed size/weight trait. Twenty-three genes including those involved in cell growth/division, encoding transcription factors and located within QTLs associated with seed size/weight harbored SNPs within transcription factor binding motif(s) and/or coding region. The non-synonymous SNPs were found to affect the mutational sensitivity and stability of the encoded proteins. Overall, we provided a high-quality SNP map for large-scale genotyping applications and identified candidate genes that determine seed size/weight in chickpea.China is a second center of oak diversity but with less intensively systematic studies. An updated version, RRS 2.0, has been developed to further refine risk prediction. This post hoc analysis of PATENT-1 and its open-label extension PATENT-2 (n = 396) assessed RRS 2.0 score and risk stratum and their association with survival and clinical worsening-free survival (CWFS). At PATENT-1 Week 12, riociguat improved RRS 2.0 versus placebo (least-squares mean difference versus placebo -1.0 [95% confidence interval - 1.4 to -0.6; p < 0.0001]) and more patients improved risk stratum with riociguat (57%) versus placebo (42%). These improvements were maintained at PATENT-2 Week 12. RRS 2.0 score and risk strata at PATENT-1 baseline and Week 12 were significantly associated with survival and CWFS in PATENT-2 (p < 0.0001); change in RRS 2.0 score from PATENT-1 baseline to Week 12 was also significantly associated with outcomes. A total of 10,724 patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were consecutively enrolled and followed up for a median of 2.4 years. We evaluated outcomes of all-cause death, cardiac death, and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Patients were stratified into three groups, including the No MI group, PMI group, and SMI group. PMI was defined based on different diagnostic criteria, including the third and fourth universal myocardial infarction (MI) definitions, the society for cardiovascular angiography and interventions (SCAI) definition, and the independent biomarker definition. Regardless of these definitions, the PMI groups were all associated with a significantly increased MACE risk at one year or 1000 days (all P < 0.05), but not all-cause or cardiac death. The SMI group was associated with a markedly elevated risk of death and MACE, but it showed no significant different risk of MACE to PMI using varying definitions. The electroencephalographic (EEG) terms "brief potentially ictal rhythmic discharges" (BIRDs) and "paroxysmal fast activity" (PFA) are considered distinct entities; however, their definitions overlap, and they may have similar clinical significance. We investigated their clinical significance and their association with seizures and the seizure onset zone (SOZ).
We retrospectively identified an adult cohort (July 2015 to March 2018) whose long-term (>12h) EEGs in any setting reported BIRDs (>4Hz, lasting .5-10s) and/or PFA. Different frequency cutoffs for PFA (>13Hz or ≥8Hz) were tested to compare their clinical significance. Patient demographics, clinical history, and EEG features were recorded.
We identified 94 patients with BIRDs/PFA out of 3520 patients (3%); 36 were critically ill (12 with epilepsy), and 58 were noncritically ill (all with epilepsy). The frequency of BIRDs/PFA was largely dependent on EEG background it tended to be slower (theta) in the absence of a posterior dominant rhythrtion of patients with BIRDs/PFA had seizures on EEG, regardless of their frequency (i.e., whether they also qualified as PFA), and their location colocalized with scalp SOZ in all cases. In addition, the recent increase in the number of clinical trials on melatonin's role, as an adjuvant treatment for COVID‑19, has resurged the interest of the scientific community in this hormone. The present short review aimed to improve the understanding of the antiviral/anti‑COVID‑19 profile of melatonin and the clinical trials that have recently been conducted, with respect to its co‑administration in treating individuals with COVID‑19.

In speech, the connection between sounds and word meanings is mostly arbitrary. However, among basic concepts of the vocabulary, several words can be shown to exhibit some degree of form-meaning resemblance, a feature labelled vocal iconicity. Vocal iconicity plays a role in first language acquisition and was likely prominent also in pre-historic language. However, an unsolved question is how vocal iconicity survives sound evolution, which is assumed to be inevitable and 'blind' to the meaning of words. We analyse the evolution of sound groups on 1016 basic vocabulary concepts in 107 Eurasian languages, building on automated homologue clustering and sound sequence alignment to infer relative stability of sound groups over time. We correlate this result with the occurrence of sound groups in iconic vocabulary, measured on a cross-linguistic dataset of 344 concepts across single-language samples from 245 families. In the assessment of diseases causing skeletal lesions such as multiple myeloma (MM), whole-body low-dose computed tomography (WBLDCT) is a sensitive diagnostic imaging modality, which has the potential to replace the conventional radiographic survey.
To optimize radiation protection and examine radiation exposure, and effective and organ doses of WBLDCT using different modern dual-source CT (DSCT) devices, and to establish local diagnostic reference levels (DRL).
In this retrospective study, 281 WBLDCT scans of 232 patients performed between January 2017 and April 2020 either on a second- (A) or third-generation (B) DSCT device could be included. Radiation exposure indices and organ and effective doses were calculated using a commercially available automated dose-tracking software based on Monte-Carlo simulation techniques.
The radiation exposure indices and effective doses were distributed as follows (median, interquartile range) (A) second-generation DSCT volume-weighted CT dose index (CTDI

Most commonly used diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) models include intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM), diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI), stretched exponential model (SEM), and mono-exponential model (MEM). Previous studies of the four models were inconsistent on which model was more effective in distinguishing cervical cancer from normal cervical tissue.
To assess the performance of four DWI models in characterizing cervical cancer and normal cervical tissue.
Forty-seven women with suspected cervical carcinoma underwent DWI using eight b-values before treatment. Imaging parameters, calculated using IVIM, SEM, DKI, and MEM, were compared between cervical cancer and normal cervical tissue. The diagnostic performance of the models was evaluated using independent
-test, Mann-Whitney U test, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, and multivariate logistic regression analysis.
All parameters except pseudo-diffusion coefficient (D*) differed significantly between cervical cancer and normal cervical tissue (
< 0.001). Through logistic regression analysis, all combined models showed a significant improvement in area under the ROC curve (AUC) compared to individual DWI parameters. The model with combined IVIM parameters had a larger AUC value compared to those of other combined models (
< 0.05).
All four DWI models are useful for differentiating cervical cancer from normal cervical tissue and IVIM may be the optimal model.

Abnormal cortical development and folding have been observed in fetuses with CHD. We examined whether sulcal folding patterns in adults operated on for simple CHD in childhood differ from those of healthy controls, and whether such differences are associated with neuropsychological outcomes. Methods and Results Patients (mean age, 24.5 years) who underwent childhood surgery for isolated atrial septal defect (ASD; n=33) or ventricular septal defect (VSD; n=30) and healthy controls (n=37) were enrolled. Sulcal pattern similarity to healthy controls was determined using magnetic resonance imaging and looking at features of sulcal folds, their intersulcal relationships, and sulcal graph topology. The sulcal pattern similarity values were tested for associations with comprehensive neuropsychological scores. Patients with both ASD and VSD had decreased sulcal pattern similarity in the left hemisphere compared with controls. The differences were found in the left temporal lobe in the ASD group and in the whole left hemisphere in the VSD group (P=0.033 and P=0.039, respectively). The extent of abnormal left hemispheric sulcal pattern similarity was associated with worse neuropsychological scores (intelligence, executive function, and visuospatial abilities) in the VSD group, and special educational support in the ASD group. Conclusions Adults who underwent surgery for simple CHD in childhood display altered left hemisphere sulcal folding patterns, commensurate with neuropsychological scores for patients with VSD and special educational support for ASD. In speech, the connection between sounds and word meanings is mostly arbitrary. However, among basic concepts of the vocabulary, several words can be shown to exhibit some degree of form-meaning resemblance, a feature labelled vocal iconicity. Vocal iconicity plays a role in first language acquisition and was likely prominent also in pre-historic language. However, an unsolved question is how vocal iconicity survives sound evolution, which is assumed to be inevitable and 'blind' to the meaning of words. We analyse the evolution of sound groups on 1016 basic vocabulary concepts in 107 Eurasian languages, building on automated homologue clustering and sound sequence alignment to infer relative stability of sound groups over time. We correlate this result with the occurrence of sound groups in iconic vocabulary, measured on a cross-linguistic dataset of 344 concepts across single-language samples from 245 families. In the assessment of diseases causing skeletal lesions such as multiple myeloma (MM), whole-body low-dose computed tomography (WBLDCT) is a sensitive diagnostic imaging modality, which has the potential to replace the conventional radiographic survey. To optimize radiation protection and examine radiation exposure, and effective and organ doses of WBLDCT using different modern dual-source CT (DSCT) devices, and to establish local diagnostic reference levels (DRL). In this retrospective study, 281 WBLDCT scans of 232 patients performed between January 2017 and April 2020 either on a second- (A) or third-generation (B) DSCT device could be included. Radiation exposure indices and organ and effective doses were calculated using a commercially available automated dose-tracking software based on Monte-Carlo simulation techniques. The radiation exposure indices and effective doses were distributed as follows (median, interquartile range) (A) second-generation DSCT volume-weighted CT dose index (CTDI ) 1.78 where our locally determined values may help as benchmarks. Most commonly used diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) models include intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM), diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI), stretched exponential model (SEM), and mono-exponential model (MEM). Previous studies of the four models were inconsistent on which model was more effective in distinguishing cervical cancer from normal cervical tissue. To assess the performance of four DWI models in characterizing cervical cancer and normal cervical tissue. Forty-seven women with suspected cervical carcinoma underwent DWI using eight b-values before treatment. Imaging parameters, calculated using IVIM, SEM, DKI, and MEM, were compared between cervical cancer and normal cervical tissue. The diagnostic performance of the models was evaluated using independent -test, Mann-Whitney U test, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, and multivariate logistic regression analysis. All parameters except pseudo-diffusion coefficient (D*) differed significantly between cervical cancer and normal cervical tissue ( < 0.001). Through logistic regression analysis, all combined models showed a significant improvement in area under the ROC curve (AUC) compared to individual DWI parameters. The model with combined IVIM parameters had a larger AUC value compared to those of other combined models ( < 0.05). All four DWI models are useful for differentiating cervical cancer from normal cervical tissue and IVIM may be the optimal model. Abnormal cortical development and folding have been observed in fetuses with CHD. We examined whether sulcal folding patterns in adults operated on for simple CHD in childhood differ from those of healthy controls, and whether such differences are associated with neuropsychological outcomes. Methods and Results Patients (mean age, 24.5 years) who underwent childhood surgery for isolated atrial septal defect (ASD; n=33) or ventricular septal defect (VSD; n=30) and healthy controls (n=37) were enrolled. Sulcal pattern similarity to healthy controls was determined using magnetic resonance imaging and looking at features of sulcal folds, their intersulcal relationships, and sulcal graph topology. The sulcal pattern similarity values were tested for associations with comprehensive neuropsychological scores. Patients with both ASD and VSD had decreased sulcal pattern similarity in the left hemisphere compared with controls. The differences were found in the left temporal lobe in the ASD group and in the whole left hemisphere in the VSD group (P=0.033 and P=0.039, respectively). The extent of abnormal left hemispheric sulcal pattern similarity was associated with worse neuropsychological scores (intelligence, executive function, and visuospatial abilities) in the VSD group, and special educational support in the ASD group. Conclusions Adults who underwent surgery for simple CHD in childhood display altered left hemisphere sulcal folding patterns, commensurate with neuropsychological scores for patients with VSD and special educational support for ASD. Cranial neuritis is a possible neurological manifestation of coronavirus-2 pneumonia. Etiology is not clear it is possible a direct injury of the nervous structures by the virus through olfactory nasopharyngeal terminations. However, the presence of albumin-cytological dissociation in one patient, the sparing of the sense of smell, and the response to human immunoglobulin therapy suggests an immune-mediated genesis of the disorder.

We examined the cumulative effects of the social network HIV testing and small group interventions on rates of HIV testing, beyond the increase that we saw with the introduction of the social network HIV testing intervention alone. HIV test data was converted into the number of daily tests and analyzed the immediate and overtime impact of small group interventions during and in the twelve weeks after the small group intervention. The addition of the small group interventions to the baseline of monthly HIV tests resulted in increased rates of testing lasting 7 days after the small group interventions suggesting a reinforcing effect of small group interventions on testing rates.Dr. R. In the present study, high-density EEG recordings were used to investigate intensity dependence of auditory evoked potentials (IDAEPs) in 14 patients with PD and 14 age- and gender-matched healthy control participants (HCs). Patients with PD were evaluated in both the on- and off-medication states. HCs were also evaluated twice. Significantly increased IDAEP of the N1/P2 was demonstrated in patients with PD evaluated in the on-medication state compared to HCs. Distinctive results were found for the N1 and P2 component. Regarding the N1 component, no differences in latency or amplitude were shown between patients with PD and HCs regardless of the medication state. In contrast, increased P2 amplitude was demonstrated in patients with PD evaluated in the on-medication state compared to the off-medication state and HCs. In addition to a dopaminergic deficiency, deficits in serotonergic neurotransmission in PD were shown based on increased IDAEP. Due to specific alterations of the N1-P2 complex, the current results suggest deficiencies in early-attentive inhibitory processing of auditory input in PD. We also found that spontaneous arm dystonia requires higher BT doses in a proximal application pattern, whereas task specific writer's cramp requires considerably reduced BT doses with a distal application pattern. Injections of non-arm muscles influence the BT dosing in arm muscles only marginally.Our study demonstrates that BT dosing does not only depend on the particularities of the individual target muscle injected, such as its volume and its static or phasic function. BT dosing and its application pattern rather depend on additional contextual factors such as the aetiology and pathophysiology of the muscle hyperactivity treated. These contextual factors need to be included in dosing tables and may improve the outcome of BT therapy.

A mechanical time-of-flight filter intended for measurement of velocities of nanoparticles exiting a gas aggregation source has been developed. Several configurations maximizing simplicity, throughput or resolution are suggested and investigated both theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that the data measured using such filters may be easily converted to the real velocity distribution with high precision. Furthermore, it is shown that properly designed filters allow for the monitoring of the velocity of nanoparticles even at the conditions with extremely low intensity of the nanoparticle beam.When studying carbon (C) sequestration in soil, it is necessary to recognize the maximal storage potential and the main influencing factors, including the climate, land use, and soil properties. Here, we hypothesized that the silt and clay contents in soils as well as the clay mineralogy are the main factors affecting the maximal C and N storage levels of soils. This hypothesis was evaluated using a database containing the organic C contents of topsoils separated by ultrasonic dispersion to determine the particle size fractions. The slopes of the linear regressions between the C contents in silt and clay to the soil organic C (SOC) and between the N contents in silt and clay to the total N content were independent of the clay mineralogy (21, 11, calcareous soil, amorphous clays), climate type (tropical, temperate, and Mediterranean), and land use type (cropland, grassland, and forest). This clearly shows that the silt and clay content is the main factor defining an upper SOC level, which allowed us to propose a generalized linear regression (R2 > 0.95) model with a common slope, independent of the land use and climate type, to estimate the soil C sequestration potential. The implications of these findings are as follows (1) a common slope regression was accurately calculated (0.83 ± 0.02 for C-silt + clay less then 63 μm and 0.81 ± 0.02 for C-silt + clay less then 20 μm) and (2) there was no asymptotic pattern found to support the existence of an SOC saturation pool.High density lipoproteins (HDLs) display pleiotropic functions such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-protease, and anti-apoptotic properties. By analyzing RNA sequencing data sets and performing in situ hybridization, we demonstrated the wide expression of scarb1, abca1a, abca1b, abcg1, and cd36 in the brain of adult zebrafish. Scarb1 gene expression was detected in neural stem cells (NSCs), suggesting a possible role of HDLs in NSC activity. Accordingly, intracerebroventricular injection of HDLs leads to their uptake by NSCs without modulating their proliferation. Next, we studied the biodistribution of HDLs in the zebrafish body. In homeostatic conditions, intraperitoneal injection of HDLs led to their accumulation in the liver, kidneys, and cerebral endothelial cells in zebrafish, similar to that observed in ****. After telencephalic injury, HDLs were diffused within the damaged parenchyma and were taken up by ventricular cells, including NSCs. However, they failed to modulate the recruitment of microglia cells at the injury site and the injury-induced proliferation of NSCs. Our study was aimed at providing an updated distribution of Maculipennis complex in Northern Italy through the sampling and morphological/molecular identification of specimens from five regions. The most abundant species was Anopheles messeae (2032), followed by Anopheles maculipennis s.s. (418), Anopheles atroparvus (28) and Anopheles melanoon (13). Taking advantage of ITS2 barcoding, we were able to finely characterize tested mosquitoes, classifying all the Anopheles messeae specimens as Anopheles daciae, a taxon with debated rank to which we referred as species inquirenda (sp. inq.). The distribution of species was characterized by Ecological Niche Models (ENMs), fed by recorded points of presence.

After telencephalic injury, HDLs were diffused within the damaged parenchyma and were taken up by ventricular cells, including NSCs. However, they failed to modulate the recruitment of microglia cells at the injury site and the injury-induced proliferation of NSCs. In conclusion, our results clearly show a functional HDL uptake process involving several receptors that may impact brain homeostasis and suggest the use of HDLs as delivery vectors to target NSCs for drug delivery to boost their neurogenic activity.Ionic polymer metal composites (IPMCs) are a kind of soft electroactive polymer composites. Many important chemically reacting systems are inherently multi-dimensional with spatial and temporal variations in the thermochemical state, which can be strongly coupled to interactions with transport processes. Fundamental insights into these systems require multi-dimensional measurements of the thermochemical state as well as fluid dynamics quantities. Laser-based imaging diagnostics provide spatially and temporally resolved measurements that help address this need. The state of the art in imaging diagnostics is continually progressing with the goal of attaining simultaneous multi-parameter measurements that capture transient processes, particularly those that lead to stochastic events, such as localized extinction in turbulent combustion. Development efforts in imaging diagnostics benefit from advances in laser and detector technology. This article provides a perspective on the progression of increasing dimensionality of laser-based imaging diagnostics and highlights the evolution from single-point measurements to 1D and 2D multi-parameter imaging and 3D high-speed imaging. This evolution is demonstrated using highlights of laser-based imaging techniques in combustion science research as an exemplar of a complex multi-dimensional chemically reacting system with chemistry-transport coupling. Imaging diagnostics impact basic research in other chemically reacting systems as well, such as measurements of near-surface gases in heterogeneous catalysis. The expanding dimensionality of imaging diagnostics leads to larger and more complex datasets that require increasingly demanding approaches to data analysis and provide opportunities for increased collaboration between experimental and computational researchers in tackling these challenges.While subjected to radiation, gold nanoparticles (GNPs) have been shown to enhance the production of radicals when added to aqueous solutions. It has been proposed that the arrangement of water solvation layers near the water-gold interface plays a significant role. As such, the structural and electronic properties of the first water solvation layer surrounding GNPs of varying sizes were compared to bulk water using classical molecular dynamics and quantum and semi-empirical methods. Classical molecular dynamics was used to understand the change in macroscopic properties of bulk water in the presence of different sizes of GNP, as well as by including salt ions. The analysis of these macroscopic properties has led to the conclusion that larger GNPs induce the rearrangement of water molecules to form a 2D hydrogen-bond network at the interface. Quantum methods were employed to understand the electronic nature of the interaction between water molecules and GNPs along with the change in the water orientation and the vibrational density of states. The stretching region of vibrational density of states was found to extend into the higher wavenumber region, as the size of the GNP increases. This extension represents the dangling water molecules at the interface, as a result of reorientation of the water molecules in the first solvation shell. This multi-level study suggests that in the presence of GNP of increasing sizes, the first water solvation shell undergoes a rearrangement to maximize the water-water interactions as well as the water-GNP interactions.In this work, we showcase applications of single-molecule Fano resonance (SMFR) measurements beyond the determination of molecular excitonic energy and associated dipole orientation. We use the SMFR measurement to probe the local influence of a man-made single chlorine vacancy on the molecular transition of a single zinc phthalocyanine, which clearly reveals the lifting-up of the double degeneracy of the excited states due to defect-induced configurational changes. Furthermore, time-trace SMFR measurements at different excitation voltages are used to track the tautomerization process in a free-base phthalocyanine. Different behaviors in switching between two inner-hydrogen configurations are observed with decreasing voltages, which helps to reveal the underlying tautomerization mechanism involving both the molecular electronic excited states and vibrational excited states in the ground state.We have studied the production of doubly charged molecular ions by a single photon for the aromatic molecules triphenylene (C18H12) and corannulene (C20H10) using monochromatized synchrotron radiation from 18 eV to 270 eV. We compare our results with previously published data for partially deuterated benzene (C6H3D3), pyrene (C16H10), and coronene (C24H12). The question that we address in this paper is how the different but similar molecular structures of coronene, corannulene, and triphenylene affect the photon-energy dependence of the ratio of doubly to singly charged parent ions. A theoretical analysis of the main features in terms of independent molecular subsystems will be discussed.Extended quantum chemical calculations were performed for the tetracene dimer to provide benchmark results, analyze the excimer survival process, and explore the possibility of using long-range-corrected (LC) time-dependent second-order density functional tight-biding (DFTB2) for this system. Ground- and first-excited-state optimized geometries, vertical excitations at relevant minima, and intermonomer displacement potential energy curves (PECs) were calculated for these purposes. Ground-state geometries were optimized with the scaled-opposite-spin (SOS) second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) theory and LC-DFT (density functional theory) and LC-DFTB2 levels. Excited-state geometries were optimized with SOS-ADC(2) (algebraic diagrammatic construction to second-order) and the time-dependent approaches for the latter two methods. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/tcpobop.html Vertical excitations and PECs were compared to multireference configuration interaction DFT (DFT/****). Despite some state-order inversions, overall good agreement between methods was observed in the spectral shape, state character, and PECs. Nevertheless, DFT/**** predicts that the S1 state should acquire a doubly excited-state character relevant to the excimer survival process and, therefore, cannot be completely described by the single reference methods used in this work. PECs also revealed an interesting relation between dissociation energies and the intermonomer charge-transfer interactions for some states.
