Here, we report the responses of leaf gas exchange after the first two years of warming. We show that the two species exhibit divergent stomatal responses to warming and vapor pressure deficit. Warming of up to 9°C increased leaf N in both spruce and tamarack. However, higher leaf N in the warmer plots translate into higher photosynthesis in tamarack but not in spruce, with photosynthesis being more constrained by stomatal limitations in spruce than in tamarack under warm conditions. Surprisingly, dark respiration did not acclimate to warming in spruce, and thermal acclimation of respiration was only seen in tamarack once changes in leaf N were considered. Study designs that assess sexual consent at multiple time points (e.g., experience sampling methodology [ESM]) are needed to better understand the within-person variability of sexual consent. However, extant validated measures of sexual consent are not appropriate for ESM studies, which require shorter assessments due to the increased burden this methodology has on participants. As such, the goal of the present study was to develop ESM measures of sexual consent based on items that have previously been validated for use in cross-sectional surveys. We selected items that balanced face validity as evidenced by cognitive interviews (n = 10) and content validity as evidenced by experts' ratings (n = 6). To assess the construct validity and feasibility of these items, we administered the selected ESM measures of sexual consent in a seven-day pilot study (n = 12). The results suggested that the ESM measures developed in the present study were a valid and feasible assessment of people's experience-specific internal consent feelings and external consent communication. We conclude with recommendations for sex researchers interested in ESM.The Millon series (i.e., MCMI-II/MCMI-III) has a longstanding history of use in clinical and forensic settings. For forensic psychologists, the Millon series can serve as a unique tool in evaluations related to parental fitness due to its incorporation of DSM diagnostic categories and the use of base rate (BR) scores. It is unknown if there is a continued presence of the normal quartet in the MCMI-IV, published in 2015. With the current study, we examined parental fitness litigant response patterns on the MCMI-IV and assessed the presence of a normal quartet. The sample consisted of 330 parental fitness litigants in the northeast region of the United States. Results of the current study suggest a new normal quartet elevations on the Desirability (Y), Histrionic (4A), Turbulent (4B), and Compulsive (7) scales. After SARS, China improved its health infrastructure and reformed its political and legal health governance system. A quantitative, causal-comparative design using an adapted version of the National College Health Assessment (NCHA). Differences in preferences among groups were analyzed by chi-square and Cramer's
analyses with a 95% confidence interval.
Students did not differ in their preferences or perceptions (confidentiality, time, cost, effectiveness) of face-to-face in-person compared to telecommunication treatment environments despite their mental health history. A majority of students (76%) would prefer seeing their regular provider if using telepsychiatry in the future.
Implementing a higher education telepsychiatry model, especially within college health centers, could help students' access ****-needed services while breaking down barriers such as transportation and wait lists.

This study provides a convenient pathway for the rapid analysis of multi-target components with similar chemical structures in mixture of different substrates.In this study, a novel green walnut liqueur (GWL) based on green walnuts, as the main ingredient, with the addition of fruits, aromatic plants, chocolate and honey, was produced at the pilot-scale. Antioxidant activity (AO) of the obtained GWL was determined using multiple AO assays in parallel, standard spectrophotometric (FC, DPPH and FRAP) and recently developed electrochemical ones, HydroxoPerhydroxoMercury(II) Complex and Mercury Reduction Antioxidant Power, and compared to similar commercial alcoholic beverages. Characterization of the GWL in terms of volatile and polyphenolic components was performed using SPE-GC-MS and HPLC-DAD-MS/MS, respectively. Sensory quality assessment was performed by experts in the field of sensory analysis of alcoholic beverages, using a scoring method. According to all AO assays applied, AO activity and total phenolics content of GWL were superior in comparison to commercial spirits considered. The volatile fraction of GWL was mainly composed of eugenol, α-terpineol and vanillin, while the most prevalent phenolic compounds were gallic (5.054 mg/L) and chlorogenic acid (1.307 mg/L) and flavonoids such as catechine (0.882 mg/L), quercetin (0.499 mg/L) and its sugar-conjugated derivatives, quercetin 3-O-glucoside (0.774 mg/L) and quercetin-3-O-rhamnoside (0.614 mg/L). Gallic acid is the major contributor to total AO activity, especially determined by DPPH and FRAP, followed by catechine, quercetin and chlorogenic acid. This study provides a convenient pathway for the rapid analysis of multi-target components with similar chemical structures in mixture of different substrates.In this study, a novel green walnut liqueur (GWL) based on green walnuts, as the main ingredient, with the addition of fruits, aromatic plants, chocolate and honey, was produced at the pilot-scale. Antioxidant activity (AO) of the obtained GWL was determined using multiple AO assays in parallel, standard spectrophotometric (FC, DPPH and FRAP) and recently developed electrochemical ones, HydroxoPerhydroxoMercury(II) Complex and Mercury Reduction Antioxidant Power, and compared to similar commercial alcoholic beverages. Characterization of the GWL in terms of volatile and polyphenolic components was performed using SPE-GC-MS and HPLC-DAD-MS/MS, respectively. Sensory quality assessment was performed by experts in the field of sensory analysis of alcoholic beverages, using a scoring method. According to all AO assays applied, AO activity and total phenolics content of GWL were superior in comparison to commercial spirits considered. The volatile fraction of GWL was mainly composed of eugenol, α-terpineol and vanillin, while the most prevalent phenolic compounds were gallic (5.054 mg/L) and chlorogenic acid (1.307 mg/L) and flavonoids such as catechine (0.882 mg/L), quercetin (0.499 mg/L) and its sugar-conjugated derivatives, quercetin 3-O-glucoside (0.774 mg/L) and quercetin-3-O-rhamnoside (0.614 mg/L). Gallic acid is the major contributor to total AO activity, especially determined by DPPH and FRAP, followed by catechine, quercetin and chlorogenic acid. This is the largest study addressing incisional flank hernias after LIF, an under-represented complication in the spine literature. We show that the patients present early, within months of their operation, and yet most hernias are not diagnosed for over a year. Although LIF is considered a minimally invasive procedure, the morbidity from hernia complications cannot be overlooked. These flank hernias are difficult to repair with suboptimal outcomes. We prefer robotic approach with primary closure of the defect and extraperitoneal sublay mesh, whenever possible. Prevention is key. To help reduce risk of hernia, we recommend closure of all muscle layers with slowly absorbable suture; this is different than was originally described in the spine literature.
The laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) inguinal hernia repair is a widely performed minimally invasive operation, but can present considerable ergonomic challenges for the surgeon. Our objective was to determine if a novel handheld software-driven laparoscopic articulating needle driver can mitigate these difficulties.
The video recordings of a consecutive series of TAPP cases by a single surgeon using the articulating device were compared with a series of cases using straight-stick laparoscopy. Two critical steps of the procedure were analyzed for time mesh fixation and peritoneal suture closure. These steps were then compared before and after 10 initial consecutive cases to analyze whether the surgeon demonstrated improvement. A cost analysis was also performed between the two techniques.
For mesh fixation, the surgeon averaged 227s using tacker devices, compared with 462.4s using the novel laparoscopic device (p = 0.06). For the peritoneal closure component of the operation, the surgeonrnia repair.
After only a 10 case initial experience, a laparoscopic hand-held articulating needle driver is comparable to standard laparoscopy to complete suture mesh fixation and peritoneal closure for TAPP inguinal hernia repair. Further, the feasibility of suture mesh fixation minimizes the need for costly tacker devices. This instrument appears to be a promising tool in this largely minimally invasive era of hernia repair.
We report mortality and post-operative complications from esophageal resection in the treatment of gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma or stricture, comparing a minimally invasive abdomen-only esophagectomy (MIAE) approach with a minimally invasive Ivor Lewis esophagectomy (MIILE) approach.
A single-center retrospective cohort study of patients with esophageal adenocarcinoma or stricture treated by either MIAE or MIILE was conducted. MIAE was offered for strictures less than five centimeters or cancers that were American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Stage ≤ T2 without lymphadenopathy. Patients treated with these surgical techniques were analyzed to assess pre-operative risk, intra and post-operative variables, adverse events, and overall survival.
This study included 17 patients undergoing MIAE and 32 patients treated with MIILE. There were a fewer median number of lymph nodes resected (p < 0.001) and shorter operative duration (p < 0.001) for MIAE compared to MIILE. MIAE patients also had signifiith associated shorter median operative duration. MIAE patients had significantly greater pre-operative comorbidities and higher calculated peri-operative risk of complication but demonstrated similar post-operative outcomes. This suggests that MIAE may be a suitable surgical approach for treating gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma or stricture in patients deemed unsuitable for MIILE.
Surgeons in practice have limited opportunities to learn new techniques and procedures. Traditionally, in-person hands-on courses have been the most common means for surgeons to gain exposure to new techniques and procedures. The COVID19pandemic caused a cessation in these courses and left surgeons with limited opportunities to continue their professional development. Thus, SAGES elected to create an innovative hands-on course that could be completed at home in order to provide surgeons with opportunities to learn new procedures during the pandemic.
This course was initially planned to be taught as an in-person hands-on course utilizing the Acquisition of Data for Outcomes and Procedure Transfer(ADOPT) method
. We identified a virtual telementoring platform, Proximie Ltd(London, UK), and a company that could create a model of an abdominal wall in order to perform a Transversus Abdominis Release, KindHeart™(Chapel Hill, NC, USA). The course consisted of pre-course lectures and videos to be reviewed by para virtual at-home format. This innovative approach to continuing professional development will be necessary during the times of the COVID19 pandemic, but may be a helpful option for rural surgeons and others with travel restrictions in the future to continue their professional development without the need to travel away from their practice.Identifying intrinsic and extrinsic sources of variation in life history traits among populations has been well-studied at the post-embryonic stage but rarely at the embryonic stage. To reveal these sources of variation in the developmental success of embryos, we measured the physical characteristics of nest environments and conducted reciprocal egg-swap experiments in two populations of the toad-headed agamid lizard (Phrynocephalus przewalskii), isolated from each other by a mountain range. This study aimed to investigate whether the active prescription of low-dose aspirin during or prior to hospitalization affects mortality in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Aspirin is often prescribed for secondary prevention in patients with cardiovascular disease and other comorbidities that might increase mortality, and may therefore falsely demonstrate increased mortality. To reduce bias, only studies that performed an adjusted analysis were included in this review.
A systematic literature search of PubMed, Scopus, Embase and Clinicaltrials.gov was performed, from inception until 16 April 2021. The exposure was active prescription of low-dose aspirin during or prior to hospitalization. The primary outcome was mortality. The pooled adjusted effect estimate was reported as relative risk (RR).
Six eligible studies were included in this meta-analysis, comprising 13,993 patients. The studies had low-to-moderate risk of bias based on the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. The meta-analysis indicated that the use of low-dose aspirin was independently associated with reduced mortality RR 0.46 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.35-0.61], P < 0.001; I

A useful model for probing the causal role of motor circuit LFP synchronization in motor dysfunction is the unilateral dopamine cell-lesioned rat, which shows dramatic motor deficits walking contralaterally to the lesion but can walk steadily ipsilaterally on a circular treadmill. Within hours after 6-OHDA injection, rats show marked deficits in ipsilateral walking with early loss of significant motor cortex (MCx) LFP peaks in the mid-gamma 41-45 Hz range in the lesioned hemisphere; both effects were reversed by dopamine agonist administration. Increases in MCx and substantia nigra pars reticulata (SNpr) coherence and LFP power in the 29-40 Hz range emerged more gradually over 7 days, although without further progression of walking deficits. Twice-daily chronic dopamine antagonist treatment induced rapid onset of catalepsy and also reduced MCx 41-45 Hz LFP activity at 1 h, with increases in MCx and SNpr 29-40 Hz power/coherence emerging over 7 days, as assessed during periods of walking before the morning treatments. Thus, increases in high beta power in these parkinsonian models emerge gradually and are not linearly correlated with motor deficits. This study aimed to investigate whether the active prescription of low-dose aspirin during or prior to hospitalization affects mortality in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Aspirin is often prescribed for secondary prevention in patients with cardiovascular disease and other comorbidities that might increase mortality, and may therefore falsely demonstrate increased mortality. To reduce bias, only studies that performed an adjusted analysis were included in this review. A systematic literature search of PubMed, Scopus, Embase and Clinicaltrials.gov was performed, from inception until 16 April 2021. The exposure was active prescription of low-dose aspirin during or prior to hospitalization. The primary outcome was mortality. The pooled adjusted effect estimate was reported as relative risk (RR). Six eligible studies were included in this meta-analysis, comprising 13,993 patients. The studies had low-to-moderate risk of bias based on the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. The meta-analysis indicated that the use of low-dose aspirin was independently associated with reduced mortality RR 0.46 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.35-0.61], P < 0.001; I = 36.2%. Subgroup analysis on in-hospital low-dose aspirin administration also showed a significant reduction in mortality [RR 0.39 (95% CI 0.16-0.96), P < 0.001; I = 47.0%]. The clinical and radiological outcomes of 100 consecutive patients with neuromuscular scoliosis who underwent this fusionless surgery with a minimum follow-up of 5 years were reviewed.

Previous studies investigated the effect of surgical factors on spine kinematics as a potential etiology for adjacent segment disease (ASD). Those studies used static flexion-extension radiographs to evaluate range of motion. However, measurements from static radiographs are known to be unreliable. Furthermore, those studies were unable to evaluate the effect of ACDF on adjacent segment axial rotation.
Patients had continuous cervical spine flexion/extension and axial rotation movements captured at 30 images per second in a dynamic biplane radiography system preoperatively and 1 year after ACDF. Digitally reconstructed radiographs generated from subject-specific CT scans were matched to biplane radiographs using a previously validated tracking process. Dynamic kinematics, postoperative segmental kyphosis, and disc distraadjacent segment kinematics that reflect the hypermobility hypothesized to lead to the development of ASD.Level of Evidence 2.

The year 2020 has seen a surge in legislation regarding surgical smoke evacuation in the operating room across the United States. Surgical smoke contains numerous toxic and carcinogenic substances, which spine surgeons and operating room staff are regularly exposed to. While the smoke's chemical toxicity has been extensively studied, little is known about its biohazard level.
The electrocautery was used to "operate on" 20 segments of porcine spinal tissues on a clean bench. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/cevidoplenib-dimesylate.html In each operation, the generated smoke was captured with a swab, which was positioned above the surgical site and within the smoke, to obtain bacteria cultures. Two other swabs -a tissue swab (swabbing the porcine tissue itself) and a blank swab (swabbing an empty sterile bowl)- were collected as controls. The culture results were compared among the three groups. An additional experiment was conducted to see whether using a mask can reduce the "infection rate" of the swab.
While all blank swabs tested negative, 95% (19/20) of the smoke swabs tested positive, with a total of nine bacteria species identified. The most prevalent species observed in the smoke swabs included Serratia liquefaciens, Lactococcus garvieae, and Hafnia alvei, etc. Among the positive smoke swabs, 84% (16/19) had one or more bacteria species that were consistent with the cultures of their corresponding tissue swabs. Using a surgical or N95 mask reduced the "infection rate" of the swab.

The opioid crisis significantly affects residents of rural communities who already experience poor health outcomes based on social determinants. Therefore, this project evaluated the reported availability and accessibility of opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment resources in rural Utah county pharmacies through a multistep process intended to estimate the distance (miles) to registered (waivered) OUD care providers and community pharmacies and, thus, the ability to fill prescriptions for OUD treatment medications.
First, the United States Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service dichotomous classification scheme was used to identify nonmetropolitan counties. Second, online resources were used to identify the volume of waivered treatment providers and community pharmacies by county. The use of fluoroscopy-assisted surgical procedures has been increasing recently. The extensive use of fluoroscopy, combined with the lack of knowledge about radiation risks among operating room (OR) personnel (surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, and radiographers), may lead to misconceptions. The perceptions and beliefs of any health professional concerning radiation protection safety (RPS) may affect their behaviour during surgery, leading to negative outcomes. The aim of this study was to construct a new, original, reliable, and valid instrument to record the beliefs, perceptions, and behaviours of health professionals during surgery, which reflects the established culture of RPS.
A questionnaire was designed, consisting of 95 questions grouped into six coherent sections. The study was performed at a Greek public hospital with a high workload in terms of fluoroscopically guided surgical operations.

One step taken by the trust was to train an Advanced Practitioner (AP) in fluoroscopy to perform fluoroscopy guided LPs. Clinical audit and service evaluations are required to ensure there is no impact on patient care as a result of changes in practice. Regardless of occupation, healthcare workers undertaking procedures must ensure the same standards of care for patients. Minimising radiation dose is a duty of all radiological professionals.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is highly invasive with unsatisfactory postoperative complication rates. Nutritional and fluid management after major surgery attracts **** attention with regard to the reduction in severe postoperative complications. We retrospectively analyzed PD cases and proposed a novel strategy for perioperative fluid and nutritional therapy according to the risk stratification by pancreatic fistula (PF) and delayed gastric emptying (DGE).
Between 2003 and 2018, 140 patients underwent PD at our institute of which 134 patients were enrolled. We evaluated the clinicopathological factors affecting severe (≥10%) body weight loss (BWL), factors affecting the incidence of PF and intraabdominal complications (IAC), and factors related to DGE.
Multivariate analysis indicated that male sex, severe PF, and DGE are significant risk factors for BWL ≥10%. PF and IAC were predominantly observed in male patients and those with non-pancreatic cancer. A fluid balance ≥6000ml on postoperative day 2 was al feeding with tube ileostomy should be considered, and stomach preserving PD is likely to be harmful.
Lung transplantation is a well-established treatment in patients who have bronchiectasis with diffuse involvement, and with a progressive decline in respiratory function despite maximal medical therapy. We have aimed to present pre-transplantation factors and our results of lung transplantation for non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis.
Patients who underwent lung transplantation for non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis between the dates of December 2016 and July 2019 were included. The patients' clinical parameters, pulmonary function tests, microbiological results, cardiac parameters, intraoperative data, and lung transplant outcomes were assessed retrospectively.
Bilateral lung transplantation for bronchiectasis were performed in eleven patients. The mean age was 36.5 years (range 22-57 years). There were 4 (36.4%) female patients and 7 (63.6%) male patients. All patients had a high score as per the bronchiectasis severity index (BSI). The FACED score was moderate in six patients and severe in five patients. Preoperative colonization with Pseudomonas aeruginosa was observed in five patients. Hospital mortality was 18.2% (2/11). The 1-year mortality was 27.2% (3/11). Eight patients were alive. The mean follow-up period of patients with survival was 28.2 months (range 13-42 months). One patient was diagnosed with chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD). The 3-year survival rates were 73%.
Lung transplantation for bronchiectasis with end-stage lung disease can improve the quality of life and increase survival in selected patients. Further studies are needed to identify the optimal time for lung transplantation referral due to the availability of limited data.

The use of fluoroscopy-assisted surgical procedures has been increasing recently. The extensive use of fluoroscopy, combined with the lack of knowledge about radiation risks among operating room (OR) personnel (surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, and radiographers), may lead to misconceptions. The perceptions and beliefs of any health professional concerning radiation protection safety (RPS) may affect their behaviour during surgery, leading to negative outcomes. The aim of this study was to construct a new, original, reliable, and valid instrument to record the beliefs, perceptions, and behaviours of health professionals during surgery, which reflects the established culture of RPS. A questionnaire was designed, consisting of 95 questions grouped into six coherent sections. The study was performed at a Greek public hospital with a high workload in terms of fluoroscopically guided surgical operations. It was distributed among 136 people, and 132 completed questionnaires were collected (response rate 97%). rofessionals, thereby leading to a generally improved RPS culture. This retrospective review evaluated and compared examinations performed by a group of radiologists and an AP in terms of dose area product (DAP) and fluoroscustained. Between 2003 and 2018, 140 patients underwent PD at our institute of which 134 patients were enrolled. We evaluated the clinicopathological factors affecting severe (≥10%) body weight loss (BWL), factors affecting the incidence of PF and intraabdominal complications (IAC), and factors related to DGE. Multivariate analysis indicated that male sex, severe PF, and DGE are significant risk factors for BWL ≥10%. PF and IAC were predominantly observed in male patients and those with non-pancreatic cancer. We have aimed to present pre-transplantation factors and our results of lung transplantation for non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. Patients who underwent lung transplantation for non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis between the dates of December 2016 and July 2019 were included. The patients' clinical parameters, pulmonary function tests, microbiological results, cardiac parameters, intraoperative data, and lung transplant outcomes were assessed retrospectively. Bilateral lung transplantation for bronchiectasis were performed in eleven patients. The mean age was 36.5 years (range 22-57 years). There were 4 (36.4%) female patients and 7 (63.6%) male patients. All patients had a high score as per the bronchiectasis severity index (BSI). The FACED score was moderate in six patients and severe in five patients. Preoperative colonization with Pseudomonas aeruginosa was observed in five patients. Hospital mortality was 18.2% (2/11). The 1-year mortality was 27.2% (3/11). Eight patients were alive. The mean follow-up period of patients with survival was 28.2 months (range 13-42 months). One patient was diagnosed with chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD). The 3-year survival rates were 73%. Lung transplantation for bronchiectasis with end-stage lung disease can improve the quality of life and increase survival in selected patients. Laminectomies and foraminotomies were performed at each level with high-speed drill and a Kerrison rongeur, with care to identify and protect the relevant spinal nerve roots. Postoperatively, the patient reported significantly reduced numbness and improved ambulation, with a well-healed surgical incision notably smaller than those produced in an open operation.
Neuropathic dental pain (NDP) is a chronic pain condition that is notoriously difficult to treat. To date, there are no deep brain stimulation (DBS) studies on this specific pain condition and no optimal target or "sweet spot" has ever been defined.
To determine the optimal thalamic target for improving this condition by utilizing the steering abilities of a directional DBS electrode (Vercise CartesiaTM Model DB-2202-45, Boston Scientific).
A literature search and review of our database identified 3 potential thalamic targets. A directional lead was implanted in a patient with NDP and its current steering used to test the effects in each nucleus. The patient reported her pain after 2 wk of stimulation in a prospective randomized blinded trial of one. Quality of life measurements were performed before and after 3 mo on their best setting.
We identified 3 potential nuclei the centromedian (CM), ventral posterior medial (VPM), and anterior pulvinar. The best results were during VPM stimulation (>90% reduction in pain) and CM stimulation (50% reduction). Following 3 mo of VPM-DBS in combination of lateral CM stimulation, their pain disability index dropped (from 25 to 0) and short form 36 improved (from 67.5 to 90).

Toxicity properties of BAs are linked closely to histamine and tyramine. Other amines, such as phenylethylamine, putrescine, and cadaverine are meaningful because they could increase histamine's negative effects. The key method for reducing BA concentration and foodborne disease is bacterial load management. It helps to control the formation of histamine and other BAs, and also reduce histamine and tyramine toxicity by applying basic good handling and hygiene practices. A greater understanding of BAs is essential to enhance food safety and quality. Etanercept increased serum PTH levels in the FcγRIIb-/- mouse model of lupus. Our results suggest that deletion of FcγRIIb induces osteopenia by increasing the level of proinflammatory cytokines. The present study used event-related potentials (ERPs) to clarify the difference between responses to 1) unknown voices, 2) trained-to-familiar voices as speech stimuli are repeatedly presented, and 3) intimately familiar voices. In an experiment, 13 participants listened to repeated utterances recorded from 12 speakers. Only one of the 12 voices was intimately familiar to a participant, whereas the remaining 11 voices were unfamiliar. The frequency of presentation of thed on the present results and previous observations, it is proposed that there is a need to distinguish between processes of voice "recognition" and "identification". The present study also specifies test conditions serving to reveal this distinction in neural responses, one of which bears on the length of speech stimuli given the late responses associated with voice identification.
To estimate the prevalence and analyze the association between sociodemographic and behavioral variables with the use of prehospital care, hospitalization and sequelae and/or disability in victims of road traffic accidents victims in Brazil.
Data from the National Health Survey conducted in 2013 in Brazil were used. Data were collected through a direct household survey. The research sample consisted of 1,840 individuals who reported road traffic accidents in the previous 12 months. Poisson regression analysis was used to evaluate the factors associated with the use of prehospital care services, hospitalization, and the presence of sequelae and/or disability.
The prevalence of road traffic accidents victims who received prehospital care was 13.0% (95% Confidence Interval [95% CI] 10.3-16.3) and the factors associated with this outcome were residing in the Northeast or North region of Brazil; residing in rural areas; and being a motorcycle occupant at the moment of the road traffic accident. The frequencywith prehospital care, hospitalization and presence of sequelae and/or disability in the victims of road traffic accident and the results can guide the implementation of interventions that prioritize the population exposed to the highest risk of road traffic accident injuries and with less access to prehospital and hospital care services in Brazil.
Unmet need for family planning is a measure of the gap between women's contraceptive behavior and their fertility desires. It should be measured among different population groups to effectively implement public health interventions. Thus, this study aimed to determine the magnitude of unmet need for family planning and associated factors among HIV- positive women in Dire Dawa city Anti-retroviral treatment (ART) clinics, Eastern Ethiopia.
We carried out a facility-based cross-sectional study (March-June 2020) among 409 married women aged 15-49 on ART, using systematic random sampling. A face-to-face interview was done using a structured questionnaire. Bivariable and multivariable logistic regression was done to identify factors associated with unmet need for family planning.
Overall, 33% [95% confidence interval (CI) 28.9-37.9] of the respondents had unmet need for family planning. Woman's residing in a rural area (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) 2.41 [95% CI 1.24-4.67]), woman's not attained formal educationto combat the high unmet need for family planning among HIV-positive women.
This study indicates there a high unmet need for family planning among married HIV-positive women. Factors like a place of residence, educational status of women, knowledge and attitude towards family planning, client satisfaction with FP service, women decision-making power, and FP counseling service in ART. Therefore, we recommend that the concerned bodies should collaborate with ART clinics to design interventions that enhance access to family planning programs to combat the high unmet need for family planning among HIV-positive women.
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) has characteristics of spinal bone bridge and fusion. Although BMD reduction in AS may be presumed to be due to spinal inflammation, this study was designed to confirm whether immobilization of the spine due to syndesmophytes is related to BMD reduction, as immobilization itself is a risk factor for BMD reduction.
Among male patients diagnosed with AS according to the modified New York criteria, those who underwent bone density tests with quantitative computed tomography (QCT) were retrospectively analyzed through a chart review. The correlation between the presence or absence of bone bridges for each vertebral body level of the L spine confirmed with radiography and BMD confirmed with QCT was analyzed.
A total of 47 male patients with AS were enrolled. Low BMD was significantly correlated with bone bridge in the vertebral body (p < 0.05).
